South Korean students gathered in Seoul to encourage their peers - and politicians - to do more to tackle climate change. The event drew inspiration from Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish activist who this week admonished global leaders at the UN Climate Action Summit. Students recognize the solution starts with investigating the issue.

Students highlighted South Korea’s poor environmental record - involving a heavy reliance on coal energy – as a target for change. Participants also called for greater use of renewable energy sources. They demonstrated in a mock funeral, the perilous threat the planet faces.

The rally and march follow other “no school” protests this year. The young activists also delivered a message to their country’s leadership criticizing their irresponsible policies.

Earlier this week at the United Nations General Assembly world leaders expressed their intention to address climate change. But their word is not good enough for the young people around the world protesting and for the hundreds of students here marching on their presidential office, demanding action.
