Youths from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao celebrate 70th anniversary of founding China

More than 3,000 youths from south China's Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao gathered at Guangzhou City on Sunday to celebrate the upcoming 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The young people first formed three huge Chinese characters reading "Zuguohao" (best wishes to the motherland) to express their deep love for the country.

Then after a solemn flag-raising ceremony, they began to sing Chinese patriotic songs with small national flags in hand, while a huge national flag was passed over their head.

"When I saw the national flag floating over my head, I was overwhelmed with the feeling that our mother is hugging us with love. Singing together the national anthem and watching the national flag being raised, we feel the youths from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao are full of positive energy," said Wu Hsheh-ming from Hong Kong.

"I'm very excited, especially when the huge national flag was covering us while we were singing. You can't feel such an extraordinarily deep affection at ordinary times. As this year also marks the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, I think as a youth from Macao, I should grasp the opportunities offered by our motherland," said Li Hui-yin from Macao.

The young people also traveled to Foshan and Jiangmen cities of Guangdong Province on Saturday via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to learn more about local culture and economic development in the bay area.

After the impressive visit, they are inspired and hope to achieve more progress together with the construction of the Greater Bay Area and the development of the whole country.
