China unveils mascots for the 2022 Winter Olympics

The two mascots for the 2022 Beijing Winter and Paralympics were unveiled at a ceremony in Beijing on Tuesday.

"Bing Dwen Dwen", a black and white panda, is the mascot of the Olympics with a red and white lantern child "Shuey Rhon Rhon", the mascot of the Paralympics.

The mascots were chosen following a competition held by the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee who received over 5,800 designs from China and 35 countries around the world.

The Olympics begin on February 4, 2022 with the Paralympics a month later on March 4.

Before attending the ceremony, IOC president Thomas Bach met Yang Jiechi, the Chinese director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, for talks about the progress being made with the preparations for the Games.
