ACL: Al Sadd beat Al Nassr 4-3 on Agg. to reach semis

@AFP

Al Sadd of Qatar have ousted Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr from the 2019 AFC Champions League after a 3-1 win in the 2nd leg of their quarter-final tie.

Having lost the 1st leg 2-1 in Riyadh, Al Sadd needed a victory to secure a last-4 spot, and it was Akram Afif who put the Qatari Side in front with a simple header in the 26th minute.

The joy lasted no more than 7 minutes as Al Nassr silenced the home crowd in Doha through Abderrazak Hamdallah whose free kick took a deflection and went inside.

Al Sadd retook the lead just before the hour mark when Captain Hassan al-Haydos rifled a pile-driver from outside the box, with the ball dipping nicely into the top right corner.

The Qataris upped the pressure and got what they wanted in the 83rd minute when Baghdad Bounedjah converted from the spot to seal the deal.

Al Sadd will next meet the winners of Tuesday’s clash between Saudi rivals Al Hilal and Al Ittihad.
