A variety of activities were staged across south China's Guangdong Province over the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from Friday to Sunday, to celebrate the special festival that marks family reunion and to express good wishes for the upcoming 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

In the "City of Flowers" - Guangzhou, a large exhibition of lanterns opened at Yuntai Garden. The lantern displays depict scenes showing the diligence and pragmatism of the Guangdong people. The park was also adorned with more than 100,000 pots of flowers such as sage, chrysanthemum and zinnia, creating a visual feast for visitors all day long.

At Liuhua Lake Park in Guangzhou, several exquisite floral works were also on display. Those pieces were previously picked from a recent floral design competition, including 52 individual works and 18 group works.

In Shenzhen City, various cultural activities, ranging from syrup painting to moon-worshiping dancing of the Yi ethnic minority, were held at the Splendid China Folk Village, attracting large crowds of visitors.

Cultural performances featuring dancing, singing and cheongsam fashion show were also brought to various residential communities in Heyuan City.

Meanwhile, in Meizhou City, the China Hakka Culture Museum was open to public at night for the first time. People making trips there could also guess lantern riddles and participate in treasure hunting games.

Boat rides became popular in Nanxi Town of Puning City during the holiday. Tourists were enjoying the moon-gazing while eating some delicious mooncakes amid the picturesque scenery.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a harvest festival under traditional Chinese culture. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar with full moon at night. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival fell on Sept 13.
