Over 30,000 cyclists flocked to Moscow streets on Sunday, September 15, to take part in a mass ride to promoting cycling in the city.

The participants of the Cycling Festival, as it was called by the organisers, arrived in the city centre early in the morning on a warm autumn day, some with children and families in tow.

Moscow government statistics show that there are now more than three million bicycles in Moscow. The first cycling track in the city only appeared in 2011.

Muscovites take to bicycle for various reasons, but for many it is a way of avoiding Moscow's notoriously impassible traffic.
