World Cup: French top Aussies 67-59 for bronze

Over basketball news, France have won the bronze medal at the FIBA World Cup after coming from behind to claim a 67-59 victory over Australia.

The Australians led 30-21 at half-time in Beijing but a third-quarter French revival saw their advantage cut to four points. The French roared on to dominate the fourth quarter 25-13 as Australia's World Cup fizzled out.

Turkish-based guard Nando De Colo led all scorers with 19 points for France as Nicolas Batum collected nine. It was France's second straight bronze medal in the event while Australia remain without a medal at the worlds or Olympics.

The French defeated reigning two-time holders the United States in the quarter-finals, but then lost heavily to Argentina. Australia, meanwhile, had similarly led for long periods in their semi-final against Spain before being hauled back.
