Calf with fifth leg on its head reunited with mother and given new home

Farmer Matt Alexander and his fiancee Maghin Davis saved a five-legged baby calf in Hathaway, Louisiana after buying it at an auction, footage filmed on Saturday shows.

The animal was unusual not only for having a fifth leg, but for its fifth leg growing out of the calf's head, which immediately grabbed the attention of the couple.

To let the baby animal live a happy life, the couple tracked down its mother and bought her as well. The cub was named Elsie and melted the hearts of the couple.

"She was just so cute you kind of couldn't help but love her," said Maghin Davis. Davis went on to say that the couple is looking into having the leg removed, but they first need to make clear if the animal is healthy enough to undergo surgery and if the leg can be removed safely.

"We don't want it to interfere with her livelihood and her safety if it's not what's best for her," Davis added. The farmers share Elsie's adventures on a Facebook profile called 'Elsie's Journey' and are happy to have been able to save the little animal's life.

Maghin shared the couple's plans to consult a veterinarian on whether the extra limb should be removed or not, but at the moment, the calf is healthy and happy.
