The saga surrounding the seizure and release of the supertanker with Iranian oil on board off Gibraltar resulted in a new showdown between Iran and the U-S. The vessel was seized in early July by British Marine Forces. Spain, which is also claims Gibraltar announced the very first days that London made the confiscation upon a request from the United States. The UK denied the account saying it made the decision independently since Grace One was headed to Syria in breach of the European Union sanctions against the Arab country.
