Tour de France: Pinot wins Stage 14 as Alaphilippe extends lead

Over cycling news, Thibaut Pinot has won Stage 14 of the Tour de France, while his French compatriot Julian Alaphilippe, not only retained the Yellow Jersey, but also stretched his lead over his main rivals.

Pinot jumped away from a small group, 200 meters from the line, to beat Yellow Jersey holder Alaphilippe and 3rd-placed Steven Kruijswijk of the Netherlands by 6 seconds. Defending champion Geraint Thomas finished 8th, 36 seconds off the pace.

This meant that in the overall standings, Alaphilippe extended his lead over 2nd-placed Thomas to 2 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunday's 15th stage is a 185 kilometer ride from Limou to Foaa. The tour will conclude in Paris on the 28th of July.
