F1: Hamilton extends lead with British GP win

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton

Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has won his home British Grand Prix for a record sixth time to stretch his lead over Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas at the top of the standings.

The five-time world champion finished 25 seconds clear of his nearest title rival and pole-starter Bottas in an action-packed contest at Silverstone on Sunday. This was the Briton’s seventh win in 10 races this season and the 80th of his career.

He also took an extra point for the fastest lap, which came at the very last. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was third after teammate Sebastian Vettel collided with Red Bull's Max Verstappen. In the title race, Hamilton is now 39 points clear of second-place Bottas while Verstappen is another 48 points adrift in third.
