Rescuers struggled to reach people stranded in floods in Alice B, Louisiana on Sunday, as Tropical Storm Barry flooded entire towns and made many roads unusable across the state.

Footage shows the aftermath of the hurricane turned tropical storm, and a team of rescuers attempting to reach a flooded town.

As many as 11 million people could be affected by flooding across the south-eastern United States after Barry made landfall as a hurricane on Saturday, before weakening to a tropical storm and crawling across the region at a pace of 15 kilometres per hour (nine miles per hour), or slower than a bicyclist, dumping up to 38 cm of rain (15 inches) on Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and parts of Florida.
