2019 VNL Finals: Brazil 2-3 Poland

The 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League Finals is underway in the US city of Chicago, with Poland winning the opening match against Brazil in a 5-set, Pool B, thriller.

It was reigning back to back world champions Poland, who had the better start in the clash of the titans on Wednesday, taking the 1st set 25-23. Olympic title holders Brazil, however, were quick to haul themselves back to level terms after claiming the next set 25-23.

The Poles retook the initiative with a 25-21 win in the 3rd, but the South Americans, who'd defeated their European rivals in 4-sets in the Preliminary Round, pulled level again in the 4th set, claiming it 25-21. But Poland finally put an end to the seesaw action and wrapped up the victory after outshining their adversaries 15 to 9 in the decider.

Wallace De Souza led the scoring for Brazil with 21 points while Bartosz Bednorz notched up 18 for Poland. Iran is the other team in Pool B and will line up against Poland on Thursday.
