European parties to Iran deal gave in to US pressure: Analyst

Senior diplomats of Iran and the P5+1 group of countries pose for a group picture at the United Nations building in Vienna, Austria, on July 14, 2015, after signing the nuclear deal, JCPOA.

Political analyst Kaveh Afrasiabi believes that the European signatories to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal have given in to US pressure and thus failed to fulfill their end of the bargain.

“Europe, itself, for a long time, has been in breach of the Iran nuclear accord and unfortunately they have given in to the US pressure and adopted a minimalist approach in fulfilling the obligations under the JCPOA while having maximalist expectations from Iran,” said the analyst.

Europe’s submissiveness, Afrasiabi added, has led to a “huge gap” between their verbal pledge to save the accord and their action to that effect.
