Nadal loses to Cilic in Wimbledon warm-up match
In the world of tennis, Spaniard Rafael Nadal has suffered a straight sets defeat at the hands of big-serving Marin Cilic in a warm-up match before Wimbledon.
Nadal, who turned 33 this month, lacked sharpness at the Aspall Tennis Classic held at the Hurlingham Club in west London as the Croatian sent him packing 6-3, 6-3 in less than an hour. The defeat served as a reminder of the challenge the Spaniard faces to win a 3rd Wimbledon title.
Nadal, who won a record-extending 12th French Open title earlier this month, has not won the Wimbledon since 2010. That was reflected in Wednesday's seedings, which put Nadal, the world number 2, at 3, behind 8-time champion Roger Federer. Defending champion Novak Djokovic tops the draw.
