Trump still looking forward to direct talks with Iran: Political analyst

US President Donald Trump says he is not looking for war with Iran amid escalating tensions between the two sides, remarks that political commentator Richard Silverstein believes show he is still looking forward to have direct negotiations with Tehran.

Speaking to NBC News, Trump warned that a possible war would result in what he called obliteration. Trump made the comments after he said he called off an attack on three Iranian sites in retaliation for the downing of a US drone, 10 minutes before it begins.

The US president said the United States is in no hurry for a strike, even after Iran downed an introducing US spy drone on Thursday.  The NBC News quoted Trump as saying that he has no preconditions for talks with the Islamic Republic and is willing to speak to Iran’s leader and president.

Iran has time and again rejected Trump’s offer of talks, saying it will not sit for negotiations under pressure.
