UEFA European Under-21 Championship: Italy 0-1 Poland

Italy vs. Poland in European Under-21 Championship

Over 2019 UEFA European Under-21 championship, hosts Italy have suffered a 1-nil defeat at the hands of Poland in Group A.

After their 3-1 win against Spain in the opening game, Italy failed to break Poland in Bologna on Wednesday. The guests, who beat Belgium 3-2 in their first game, took the lead after a free-kick ‘rebound bounced their way, as Krystian Bielik made the most out of a tough chance.

The hosts thought they had equalized just before half-time but their goal was ruled out for offside. Italy pressed for an equalizer in the second half, but Poland managed to ride the storm to walk away with the 3 points. In the final group games, Italy will face Belgium and Poland will square off against Spain.

In the other game in Group A earlier in the day, Spain bagged their first win of the championship after narrowly beating Belgium 2-1, thanks to a late goal from Pablo Fornals. La Rokha were the better team and took an early lead through Daniel Olmo, but Sebastiaan Bornauw hit back after 24 minutes.

Spain had plenty of chances to reclaim the lead after the break. However, they couldn't find the breakthrough until the final minutes, when substitute Fornals struck from the edge of the box. Poland currently lead Group A with 6 points while Italy and Spain are on 3. Belgium have failed to pick up any points from their opening 2 games.
