International Quds Day

Iranians have marked International Quds Day by holding nationwide rallies to express solidarity with the Palestinian people. Press TV correspondent, Saman Kojouri, has been out on the streets of the capital Tehran and has talked to demonstrators from different walks of life.

US economic war

Iran’s foreign minister says the US has prevented the exports of food, medicine and aircraft spare parts to the country through imposing an economic war. Mohammad Javad Zarif said Washington has defied an order by the International Court of Justice to lift sanctions on these three commodities. Zarif noted that the move lays bare Washington’s policy of threats, pressure and bullying against Tehran. The top Iranian diplomat insisted that unlike the United States, Iran has always complied with international law.

Regional war unlikely

Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah says the proposals on Palestine that the US president has touted as the deal of the century is a historic crime. Hezbollah Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrallah said every Muslim has a religious and moral duty to confront what he called the act of injustice. Nasrallah also said the aim of the US plan is to ruin any chance of a Palestinian state. He noted that some regional countries such as Jordan and Egypt are also concerned about the US move. Regarding recent Washington-Tehran tensions, Nasrallah stressed that war in the region has become far-fetched as the US and its allies know Iran’s strength.

US shooting

12 people have been killed after a gunman opened fire at the municipal center in the US state of Virginia. At least six people were also hospitalized after the attack which took place in Virginia Beach. According to police, the assailant was killed in an exchange of gunfire with security forces. Police identified the gunman as a longtime current municipal employee, describing him as disgruntled. The mayor of Virginia Beach called the incident the most devastating day in the history of the city.

China-US tariff row

China has increased tariffs on more US good as a trade war between the two countries continues to heat up. Beijing's move hits 60 billion dollars’ worth of American products with new punitive levies, ranging from five to 25 percent. It comes in retaliation for Washington’s tariff hikes on 200 billion dollars in Chinese goods. Beijing is also preparing to unveil a blacklist of what it calls unreliable foreign companies to punish US and foreign firms cutting off supplies to telecoms giant Huawei. Washington and Beijing resumed their trade battle last month when trade talks in the US ended without a deal. The new tit-for-tat tariffs upstaged recent weeks with Washington's move to blacklist Huawei over national security concerns.
