The Brazilian Football Confederation has announced that Neymar will not captain the national team as Brazil prepare for the Copa America.

The CBF said in a statement that Neymar’s Paris St Germain teammate Dani Alves will take over the role in the friendly matches against Katar and Honduras and in the 2019 Copa America in Brazil. The 36-year-old right-back has played in 138 matches for Brazil and has captained the team on 4 previous occasions, the last of which was a 1-nil friendly win over Germany in 2018.

Brazil, who are bidding for their 9th Copa America Title will face Bolivia, Venezuela and Peru in the Group Stage. The tournament will be played from June the 14th to the 7th of July.
