In an occupied building used as a community center in Madrid, youths from "Fridays for Future" prepare to join a global protest against climate change.

With the European election scheduled for May 26 in Spain, they will be calling on European leaders as well as local governments to take action.

On Thursday, the Madrid activists prepared cardboard placards and printed flags of Spain's coastal regions, partially covered by the sea to warn against the effects of global warming.

Students are due to walk out of class in cities around the world on Friday in a fresh wave of strikes called by a generation who fear adults are sleepwalking toward a collapse in the global climate system.

Coordinators expect more than a million youths to join protests in at least 110 countries, as students inspired by 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg demand politicians and business leaders act quickly to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
