Xavi Hernandez hangs up boots at age of 39 at Tehran

Xavi Hernandez has officially hung up his boots at the age of 39, after his match against Iran’s Persepolis, at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

Xavi, who made his debut at Barcelona, bid farewell to the green turf on Monday. The Spanish midfielder, won 8 La Liga titles and 4 Champions League trophies during his 17-year-spell with the Catalan Giants.

He is Barcelona’s all-time record appearance-holder in La Liga, with 505, and also in all competitions with 769 appearances.

The Spaniard moved to Qatar in 2015 and has spent four seasons in Asia, winning the Qatari Domestic League. He made 133 appearances for Spain, winning the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well as the 2008 and 2012 UEFA European Championships.
