The far-right and the European elections

In less than a week, voters across Europe face a highly confrontational election to the European parliament in four decades.

In previous EU polls, political parties had to work hard to engage the more than 400 million citizens eligible to vote. But that trend may not continue for this round of election as there is more at stake for Europe today than before in the face of rising populism and growing nationalism, which stem mainly from economic crises throughout the continent and flow of migration from war-torn countries in the Middle East and Africa.
