Trump White House engaged in economic-psychological war against Caracas: Analyst

The administration of US President Donald Trump has launched a war of not only an economic but also psychological nature against the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, says an investigative journalist.

Tony Gosling, from Bristol, the United Kingdom, said in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday that previous coup attempts by Washington in Venezuela had all failed and that in recent months the White House had "ratcheted up" economic sanctions in order to bring Caracas to its knees.

The United States has been engaged in the psychological war ever since Maduro was elected.

In line with Washington's policies, Western media outlets, such as CNN and BBC, have also spread propaganda against the embattled Venezuelan president, he said.

"We have seen a lot of TV propaganda how his people hate him; [and how] his country is under terrible economic situation all because of him. The actual reality is that this is a propaganda form the West."

Hawkish officials at the Trump White House, such as National Security Adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, are attempting to inflict maximum damage on the governments that challenge Washington's policies, Gosling said.
