Confronting Racism

This episode is a brief section of Rami Kawas’ speech at the Muslim American Society and the Islamic Circle of North America 16th Annual Convention in Chicago.
Rami asks, “Can you imagine that one day we can come forward to our society, our country and give the vision that Islam is the radiation of racism in our society.” He adds that when we speak about youth, when we speak about generation growing in our country, we assume that young people, young Muslims bring this diversity to our society. And the reality is that the youth are not the savers if they are not intentional. Rami Kawas suggests three main ways to confront racism: a) We never change if we don’t change people. b) We change mindset through action, and c) Within the leadership of our communities is that we need to understand, we have got to create and make this intentional.
