Egypt: Newly-discovered tomb unveiled on World Heritage Day

The newly-discovered, 3,500-year-old tomb of an ancient Egyptian soldier was unveiled in Luxor on Thursday, April 18, marking World Heritage Day.

The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities opened the tomb of Shed Sou Djehuty, a nobleman likely to have served under King Thutmose I, who reigned between roughly 1506–1493 BC.

The rock-cut, or ‘saff’ tomb, was discovered after eight months of excavation. It covers an area of 550 square meters and contains 18 entrances.
