Gabbard playing very positive role in silent US Congress: Analyst

James Petras

Political analyst James Petras says that Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard is having a “positive role” in what he describes as “silent” US Congress.

Petras made the remarks in an interview with Press TV when asked about Gabbard, who has launched a Twitter attack against US President Donald Trump, describing him as the “big brother and protector” of the Saudi-sponsored al-Qaeda terror group, while "fomenting bigotry against Muslims for political gain."

Gabbard made the comments in defense of fellow Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who has been targeted by Trump because of her recent remarks about the 9/11 terror attacks.

In a video posted on her Twitter account on Sunday, Gabbard, also a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, said Trump’s criticism of Minnesota Representative Omar was “complete hypocrisy.”

“Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is playing a very positive role in a virtually silent Congress and I think she’s sparking a lot of interests and raising a lot of fundamental questions,” Petras said on Wednesday.

He also called Trump a “fanatic of wars in the Middle East,” saying that the courageous acts by Omar and Gabbard might lead to the defeat of Trump in the upcoming US presidential election.

“Trump is a fanatic of wars in the Middle East, is a fanatic supporter of Israeli violation of sovereignty in the Middle East and we hope that he will be defeated in the forthcoming elections and if he is defeated, it will be largely due to the courageous behavior of Omar, Gabbard and other people like that.”

“I hope that the media will pick up this message from Tulsi Gabbard, though I doubt it because we do not have a free press,” he added.

In another tweet, Gabbard accused President Trump of "shamelessly" fomenting fear of all Muslims for selfish and political gains.
