US President Donald Trump says he is “not worried at all” about possible Chinese espionage on his Florida resort of Mar-a-Lago, after reports emerged that the Secret Service arrested an alleged spy there.

American media reported Wednesday that the FBI, which had already been investigating possible attempts by Beijing to spy on Trump at Mar-a-Lago, was now expanding its efforts following the recent arrest of a Chinese woman, who lied to authorities about why she was there.

“No, I’m not concerned at all,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “We have very good control… we have extremely good [control] and it’s getting better.”

Since becoming president in January 2017, Trump has met with many foreign leaders at his private resort in Florida and spent many holidays there holding sensitive negotiations on his various policies.

The FBI’s investigation originally focused on Li “Cindy” Yang, a South Florida business owner and Republican donor who has promoted events at Mar-a-Lago to Chinese business executives wanting access to Trump and his family.

However, the probe gathered much more attention after the arrest of Zhang, who had two Chinese passports, four cellphones, a laptop, and a device containing malware when she briefly gained admission to the resort.

She first told authorities that she was there to swim but changed her story later on claiming that she was headed to an event advertised online by Yang. This is while Yang had canceled all of her events after she was caught by the media selling access to Chinese executives.

Zhang was not charged with any espionage-related crimes at the time of this writing. She has firmly denied any connections to the Chinese government or Trump.

“Our client has stated that she does not know the woman who was arrested at Mar-a-Lago this weekend,” a spokeswoman for Yang said Wednesday.

Trump was golfing at another one of his properties in Florida when Zhang was arrested.

“I think that was just a fluke situation and I think that the person sitting at the front desk did a very good job,” he told reporters, commending the Secret Service for making the arrest.

Trump said he might have taken pictures with Yang in the past but he doesn’t know her personally.
