A young Palestinian man has died three days after being critically injured during clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian protesters participating in an anti-occupation rally along the fence between the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied territories.

Gaza's Health Ministry said in a statement that Faris Abu Hajaras, 26, was shot by Israeli forces in his stomach east of Khan Yunis on Saturday and succumbed to his wounds on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, four other men, including three 17-year-olds, were killed by Israeli fire on Saturday.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians gathered in different spots along the fence on Saturday for the first anniversary of the Great March of Return and the Palestinian Land Day.

Abu Hajaras's death brings to five the number of fatalities from that day.

At least 263 Palestinians have been killed and about 26,000 others injured by Israeli forces ever since protest rallies began in the Gaza Strip on March 30, 2018.

The Gaza clashes reached their peak on May 14 last year, which coincided with the US embassy relocation from Tel Aviv to the occupied East Jerusalem al-Quds.

In a separate development on Tuesday, fierce clashes erupted following the funeral procession for a young Palestinian man who was shot dead by Israeli forces during a pre-dawn raid against a refugee camp south of Jerusalem al-Quds.

The Palestinian Wafa new agency citing local sources said violent clashes broke out between Israeli troops and hundreds of stone-pelting protesters at a checkpoint in the village of Qalandia, which sits between the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah and al-Quds.

The Israeli forces manning the checkpoint fired tear gas, stun grenades and rubber-coated metal bullets to disperse the mourners.

Medical sources said one child and a youth were hit in the head by a rubber bullet and taken to hospital.

Israeli forces earlier stormed the refugee camp in the village to make arrests there. During the raid, soldiers fired at a Palestinian vehicle that was passing by on Matar Street, killing its driver, identified by the Palestinian Health Ministry as Mohammad Ali Dar Adwan, a 23-year-old resident of the camp.

Two other Palestinians were also injured when Israeli troops opened fire on a group of locals protesting the raid. Israeli forces detained three Palestinian brothers and ransacked their home in the camp.
