Ukrainians have cast their ballots in the first round of presidential election of the country. There are three main contenders including sitting President Petro Poroshenko but people are upset with his inability to resolve tensions with Russia.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, a comedian with a popular anti-corruption message but no political experience took the lead in the first round of Ukraine's presidential election on Sunday (March 31), early exit polls showed. Frontrunner watched the announcement of the results in the headquarters of his campaign with his wife and members of staff.

Zelenskiy, 41, who plays a fictional president in a popular TV show, has consistently led opinion polls in a three-horse race against incumbent Poroshenko and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
