Record number of civilians killed in Afghanistan last year

New research compiled by the United Nations has revealed that over 3800 civilians were killed in Afghanistan last year.

New research compiled by the United Nations has revealed that over 3800 civilians were killed in Afghanistan last year. This includes 930 children.

Both of the figures are the highest levels on record for a single year since the United States invaded the country in 2001. In a report, the UN said the high death toll was partly down to a significant increase in US air strikes.
