Milo Yiannopoulos banned from entering Australia over Islamophobic comments

Milo Yiannopoulos, former Breitbart editor

Ultra-conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos has been banned from entering Australia after his "appalling” comments about anti-Muslim shooting attacks in New Zealand.

Australian Immigration Minister David Coleman made the announcement Saturday.

"The terrorist attack in Christchurch was carried out on Muslims peacefully practicing their religion,” Coleman said. "Australia stands with New Zealand and with Muslim communities the world over in condemning this inhuman act."

After two mosques in Christchurch were targeted in deadly attacks by an alleged white supremacist, Yiannopoulos took to social media to spread hate against Isalm.

Coleman noted that the former Breitbart editor’s comments “foment hatred and division."

"I'm banned from Australia, again, after a statement in which I said I abhor political violence," Yiannopoulos said later.

The right-wing writer was planning to give speeches during an Australia tour.

"Milo banned. Good. His overnight comments weren’t that different from how he has always behaved," said Australian Labor MP Tony Burke. "There was already enough evidence to ban him which is why the department had already recommended he be banned. The Australian tours for the world’s hate speakers must stop."

The former Breitbart editor had to resign in 2017 following the release of his remarks in favor of pedophilia.

Yiannopoulos defended the unethical practice of pedophilia during a podcast interview in 2016.

His ban to enter Australia comes as New Zealand is processing the impact of the Islamophobic shooting that has claimed 50 lives so far and left many injured as Christchurch community is yet to recover from the shock.
