Liverpool, Barcelona ease into Champions League quarters

Sadio Mane has scored twice to send Liverpool into the Champions League quarter-finals after a 3-1 win at Bayern Munich, dumping out the German champions.

Liverpool went ahead 26 minutes into the match when Mane rounded the keeper before chipping into the empty net.

However, the hosts drew level six minutes before the break as Liverpool defender Joel Matip rippled their own net on a Bayern attack.

Liverpool retook the lead in the 69th minute when Virgil Van Dijk rose above the Bayern defenders to power a header past Manuel Neuer.

Mane then scored his second when Mohamed Salah's chip found him at the far post six minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi scored twice and set up two more as Barcelona beat Lyon 5-1 to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

Barcelona's Argentinian forward Lionel Messi celebrates after scoring during the UEFA Champions League round of 16, second leg football match between FC Barcelona and Olympique Lyonnais at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona on March 13, 2019.

After a goalless draw in the opening leg in Lyon, Barca looked set to go through with two goals in the first half. Messi opened the scoring with a penalty in 18th minute. And then a simple finish from Philippe Coutinho made it 2-0 on the half hour mark.

In the second half, Lucas Tousart's volley left Lyon one goal away from putting Barcelona out.

But Messi scored once more after dribbling past his markers. He then set up Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele to complete the victory.
