Israel Gaza airstrikes

Israeli warplanes have carried out airstrikes on several areas across the besieged Gaza Strip. No casualties have yet been reported. Press TV’s Ashraf Shannon tells us more about the air raids.

Venezuela ‘cyberattack’

The Venezuelan president says a new cyberattack prevented authorities from restoring power throughout the country after a blackout on Thursday. Speaking during a rally in the capital Caracas, Nicolas Maduro said the attack undid everything that had been achieved. Venezuela suffered a massive power cut on Thursday that reportedly led to the deaths of 15 dialysis patients. Some services were later restored, although intermittently. The government blamed the outage on US sabotage and a cyberattack. During the rally, pro-government demonstrators described Washington’s measures as brutal aggression. They also once again expressed their support for Maduro. Opposition leader Juan Guaido also addressed a rival rally.

France protests

French police have once again clashed with Yellow Vest protesters in several cities across the country. The rallies were held for the 17th consecutive weekend against President Emmanuel Macron’s economic policies. Protesters called for his resignation. Security forces used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the demonstrators. People say police crackdown has got worse compared to previous weeks.

Israel kills Palestinian

Israeli soldiers have shot and killed a Palestinian in the occupied West Bank. The incident happened near a checkpoint in the city of Jericho. There has been no more details about the incident so far. Israel has set up many checkpoints in the occupied West Bank, controlling all the commuting and restricting movement in the territory. Many Palestinians fall victim to the regime forces’ shootings at those crossings. Many of those killed are found to have done nothing or posed no threat to the soldiers.

Iran-Iraq ties

These days, Iraq is preparing to host Iranian President Hassan Rouhani who is going to make a historic visit to the Arab country on Monday. During his stay in Iraq, the Iranian president is to hold talks with Iraqi officials on a wide range of issues. Our correspondent Kaveh Taghvai has more in this report.

Turkey defies US

The Turkish president says Ankara will not go back on its deal to buy S-400 missile defense systems from Russia. Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the remarks a day after the US warned Ankara of grave consequences should the agreement go ahead. Washington says the S-400 deal could jeopardize its offer to sell a missile package to Ankara and possibly result in US sanctions. Erdogan, however, stressed that Turkey will respect its deal with Russia and may subsequently look into buying S-500 systems. He underlined that Ankara’s decision has nothing to do with Washington’s security. Relations between Turkey and the US have been strained over multiple other issues including Washington’s support for Kurdish militants in Syria.
