Military: Pakistan not pushing towards war

A Pakistani military spokesman on Wednesday said his country was "not pushing the environment towards war" with India.

The military says it has two Indian pilots now in custody, captured after it said the Pakistani air force shot down their aircraft on its side of the disputed region of Kashmir.

New Delhi has not commented on Pakistan's claim.

Pakistani army spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor told journalists the incident was " not a retaliation, it is a demonstration of our capability, capacity and will."

The apparent escalation came hours after Pakistan said mortar shells fired by Indian troops from across the frontier dividing the two sectors of Kashmir killed six civilians and wounded several others.
