Ocasio-Cortez & tackling inequality

Born in New York to parents of Puerto Rican descent, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez grew up in the Bronx. After attending college, she took different jobs, helping her family to make ends meet.

When she began her 2018 campaign for Congress, she was still working as a bartender. But she had big plans and was able to reach new voters by sharing a progressive platform that was supported by many people in New York’s 14th congressional district.

After being elected, she unveiled a plan she calls the Green New Deal:The main target is to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions within 10 years. That includes creating 100% renewable energy production, upgrades to infrastructure, and all existing buildings, support for sustainable agriculture, a shift from air travel and gasoline cars to mass transit, and the creation of resiliency to climate change-related disasters.Sounds good, right? Well, for the US and the whole world yes because it fights climate change; but not for the corporate elite, including oil and gas companies. Stiff resistance is expected to bury Ocasio-Cortez’s plans.
