Iraq’s Kurdistan parliament elects speaker as political tension continues

Iraq’s Kurdish parliament has convened to elect the speaker and its deputies and break a months-long political deadlock. One the two major parties, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, however, chose not to attend the session as many issues remain unresolved.
