Venezuela's presidency amid legal controversy and US meddling

The US has recognized Venezuela’s Parliament Speaker Juan Guaido as the country’s interim president. The move drew condemnation from sitting President Nicolas Maduro, who rejected Guaido's self-proclamation as a US-backed coup. Experts say the Venezuelan opposition, which lacks popular support, is resorting to Washington to oust Maduro.
