An exceptionally large wooden sculpture, which measures 6 meters long, 4.3 meters high and 1.5 meters thick, was finally unveiled recently in a southwestern Chinese city.

It took four years and more than 100 Chinese and Burmese artists to make the gigantic carving on an entire Burmese rosewood root, based on the traditional Chinese painting "Hundreds of Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix."

Zhao Deshun, chairman of the root-carving furniture industry association in Dehong Autonomous Prefecture, led the team to finish the work, which is on display in a border city of Ruili.
