Iraq imposed war on Iran

Immediately after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iraq under former dictator Saddam Hussein and supported by major Western and regional states launched a massive military invasion on Iran.  A large number of volunteers joined the country's armed forces to defend their homeland against the Iraqi aggression. The imposed war on Iran lasted for 8 years and resulted in more than 1 million deaths on both sides.
