During the war with Iran, one of the main goals of the regime of Iraq’s former dictator Saddam Hussein was disrupting Iran’s oil industry. Iraqi warplanes started attacking oil tankers to stop Iranian oil exports. The international community was silent against these attacks and hence Iran was left with no option but to retaliate.
