Thailand put their AFC Asian Cup 2019 campaign back on track with a solitary goal victory over Bahrain in Group B at the Al-Maktoum Stadium in Dubai on Thursday.

Following a 4-1 loss against India in their opening group match on Sunday, the Thais tried their best to turn things around under their newly appointed interim manager Sirisak Yodyadthai.

Chanathip Songkrasin  scored the only goal as the 25-year-old fired a thumping shot that rippled the net. Thailand controlled the match until the final whistle to secure the much-needed victory.

Meanwhile, in the other Group A match, the United Arab Emirates managed to beat India 2-nil. The home side opened the scoring late in the first half, when Khalfan Mubarak surged past a clutter of Indian Defensemen to score from a tight-angle.

India threatened the Emiratis’ goal on a number of occasions, but couldn’t get the job done. Finally, the UAE sealed a 2 goal cushion thanks to a precise shot from inside the box by Ali Mabkhout.

Also in Group B, Jordan become the first team in the Asian Cup to qualify for the next round after beating Syria with 2-unanswered goals.

The Jordanians, who stunned Australia in their opening clash, took the lead in the 26th minute when Yousef Al-Rawashdeh’s low cross met a finishing touch by Mousa Suleiman.

Just before the break, a high-flying bullet-header from Tareq Khattab made it 2-nil for Jordan. Thanks to a superb defensive play, Jordan managed to celebrate their 2nd win of the tournament alongside a ticket to the knock-out stage.
