Controversial penalty rescues point for hosts UAE against Bahrain

The United Arab Emirates, have been held to a 1-all drew by group A rivals, Bahrain, at the opening match of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

It was a close contest, and finished scoreless in the 1st half. Bahrain got the upper hand after the break, and they broke the deadlock when Mohamed Al Rohaimi scored from the center of the box in the 78th minute.

With 2 minutes remaining, The UAE managed to level the match, when Ahmed Khalil netted form the spot. The UAE and Bahrain share group A with India and Thailand.

Meanwhile, the defending champions, Australia will start their title defense on Sunday, as they play Jordan in group B. This is while, The Asian Cup has expanded from 16 teams to 24 teams now.
