Trump 2020 campaign manager hits back at Romney

In this AFP file photo taken on January 19, 2018 former Massachusetts Governor and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is interviewed at the Silicon Slopes Tech Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

US President Donald Trump’s campaign manager for the 2020 presidential election is slamming Senate-elect Mitt Romney over attacking the president’s character.

Brad Parscale invoked Romney’s failed 2012 presidential bid shortly after he penned a Washington Post op-ed against Trump.

“The truth is @MittRomney lacked the ability to save this nation. @realDonaldTrump has saved it,” wrote Parscale (pictured below) on Twitter. “Jealousy is a drink best served warm and Romney just proved it. So sad, I wish everyone had the courage @realDonaldTrump had.”

Romney spoke out against Trump during the 2016 election after failing as a 2012 Republican presidential nominee.

"With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable. And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring," Romney wrote. “It is well known that Donald Trump was not my choice for the Republican presidential nomination… After he became the nominee, I hoped his campaign would refrain from resentment and name-calling. It did not. When he won the election, I hoped he would rise to the occasion.”

Romney’s remarks came as he was preparing to be sworn into Senate on Thursday.

Trump has been ever more isolated in the wake of incessant dismissals and resignations at the White House, while an increasing number of Republicans turn their back on him.

With the House of Representatives in control of Democrats after the 2018 midterms, there are concerns at the White House that Trump might not survive 2019.
