Iran hosts a Taliban delegation

The U-S war in Afghanistan is the longest in American history. It has surpassed 17 years. Despite this, violence has been on the rise.

The United Nations says this year has been the deadliest for civilians. The U-S government's own watchdog on Afghanistan says the Taliban is gaining territory, while government forces continue to lose ground.

It does appear the only solution to the violence is holding peace talks. Iran has confirmed Tehran has hosted a delegation from the Taliban to discuss possible ways to end hostilities.
