Reports say the United States is planning to establish new military bases in Syria despite President Donald Trump’s announcement of troop withdrawal from the country.
US forces were in war-torn Syria for years without the consent of the government, and are now changing the rules of the game after the government forces have gained upper hand in the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.
Some Arab newspapers, however, report that Washington is not planning an exit, and is only seeking to establish two military bases on the Iraqi-Syrian border. Iraqi sources say these bases are near the Iraqi province of Anbar. The United States has already deployed forces to its military bases in northern Iraq in the Kurdistan region.
