Omar Al-Bashir's rule facing its biggest challenge

Deadly protests have rocked Sudan’s capital Khartoum and other cities, with protesters demanding the downfall of President Omar al-Bashir.

A number of protesters have been killed. Sudan lost most of its oil revenues when the South seceded in 2011 with the US support. Sudan has ever since struggled to recover from its hardships.

But Inflation has skyrocketed, prices have more than doubled and the value of the Sudanese pound has plunged. Protests against the worsening situation started on Wednesday in the eastern region and quickly spilled over across the country and reached Khartoum.
