Police and protesters face off in Bolivia

Bolivia

After a group of protesting transportation workers used burning tires to block a road close to the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz on Monday, December 17, a large group of police officers arrived on the scene to break up the protest with tear gas and clear the road.

Police officers could be seen firing tear gas canisters at protesters as smoke from the burning tires billowed into the sky.

The protests broke out after the Santa Cruz municipal government unveiled a plan to restrict some traffic close to city markets. According to local media seven protesters were arrested.
