In an interview with Press TV, political commentator David Yaghoubian talks about US sanctions against Iran, which affect oil and gas exports to neighboring Iraq.

Yaghoubian says nearly half of Iraq’s energy needs are provided by Iran, making it impossible for the Baghdad government to go along with the American sanctions against Tehran.

Iraq, he adds, will work with the American government as far as it can potentially invite investment, but it will not “work against” Iran in line with the bans.

“The idea that Iraq would go along with American sanctions to extend American empire and global hegemony rather than take care of its own people and its own economy and deal with stable regional country is simply absurd; it’s a non-starter,” Yaghoubian says.
