Yellow vest protesters kneel down, offer flowers to police

Some yellow vest protesters have demonstrated peacefully, kneeling down in front of police in support of several dozens of high-school students who were forced by riot police to kneel in rows with their hands held behind their heads or in handcuffs after violent protests west of Paris.

A few protesters positioned at Porte Maillot near Paris' peripheral ring offered flowers to riot police officers. Upon being refused, one woman stuck a rose on an officer's vest.

Heavy security checks were in place all over the French capital to avoid a repeat of last Saturday's mayhem when rioters torched cars and looted shops off the famed Champs Elysees boulevard, and defaced the Arc de Triomphe monument with graffiti directed at President Emmanuel Macron.
