Biden setting himself up for humiliation in 2020: Analyst

Former US Vice President Joe Biden will likely lose if he decides to run for the White House in 2020 because he is part of the old guard which represents all that is wrong with the Democratic Party, according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist. 

Hoenig, a former Green Party candidate for Congress, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Thursday while commenting on a statement by Biden where he said he is the “most qualified person” to be president and will soon decide whether to run.

Speaking at an event in Montana, Biden hinted that he might consider challenging President Donald Trump in the 2020 elections since he would probably be better than any other potential candidate in that respect.

Hoenig said “Trump has set the bar so low as to who is ‘qualified’ to be president that certainly, Biden looks like a highly qualified candidate. And he does have the qualifications: past vice president and long term Senator from Delaware. He does make fun of his own gaffes and people like candidates who can make fun of themselves.”

“But what makes him so unlikely to win an election is that he is part of the old guard. It isn’t that he is older than most, only a year younger than Sanders, but that his politics are a relic of the past. There is nothing that he has advocated or championed for over the years that has truly been ahead of its time,” he stated.  

“Sanders may be the oldest candidate so far but his politics are far more contemporary than any of his generation. The Clintons, Bidens, and even the younger Bookers of the Democratic Party establishment represent all that is wrong with the party and so out of step with the needs of today’s voters.  I mention Booker because he is so tied to the failed charter school movement and in the pocket of Big Pharma,” he noted.  

“The Democrats are going to look like the clown car of the Republican 2016 primary season. Clinton and Biden, if both should run, could easily fall prey to the realities of an outraged public and be as humiliated on the campaign trail as Joe Lieberman was when he tried to make a comeback after his failed vice presidential race some years before,” he said.  

“Biden has no affinity with today’s youth, and older voters are not going to see him, or others like him, champion issues like social security, student debt, and the big one, health care. They will be seen as the status quo Democrats they are, who believe that the old ways are still relevant today, which they aren’t,” the analyst concluded.
